The 120 year old cottage we fell in love with in Thirroul in 2012 came with a building report the size of a phone book. It said there was nothing worth saving. The house, which we thought had immense charm, had not been cared for in recent years and was crumbling.

After speaking to over 30 builders, we selected Matt to bring it back to life. Not in a fully renovated, new for old type way - but in a way that enhanced its original features and beauty.

It was evident from our initial conversations that Matt was willing to put the time and effort in to the restoration as well as the new build component. By sourcing recycled building materials, LOTS of  repair work and the use of complementary new materials he cleverly married the old and new to produce a result we are thrilled with.  The best thing about working with MRT Constructions was that we felt Matt and his team listened to us. Rather than taking the easy road, or cutting corners, Matt was prepared to work with us to achieve our vision - which I am sure on occasion did not make any practical sense!   Matt was well organised, with trades on site everyday progressing the build. The project was delivered on time and represented good value for money.

We are thrilled with the final result and would not hesitate to recommend MRT Constructions to anyone considering a renovation or new build. When we look at our beautiful, little piece of Thirroul's history now, we wonder how anyone could have thought it was not worth saving.

Sustainable and cost-effective were the two main objectives for our renovation and Matt & the MRT team certainly delivered. They were able to re-purpose major components of our old garage into the renovated space and we appreciate the nostalgic touch in our living and dining rooms. The recycled timber looks fantastic and is always a talking point when friends come by. Matt is friendly, calm and adaptable and helped to ensure that the end result was high quality. We love our new space and would definitely recommend Matt if you're looking for an ethical and sustainable renovation.
